Waste enforcement officers take to the streets to tackle litter

Waste enforcement officers from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils are heading out to a series of events starting next week, where they will meet the public to talk about littering. They have also put together a top ten list of excuses given to them by people caught in the act. These range from “I couldn’t see a bin” to “There are no signs about not littering”. There’ll be no excuse about not seeing the signs as the councils have produced new banners to be put up in town centres where litter enforcement patrols are being carried out. From 4 February officers will be out across the districts talking about the work they do tackling litter and fly-tips and how members of the public can report offences and help with investigations. Sonning Common Green Gym comes to Tokers Green

The Sonning Common Green Gym is a great way to be active, get out in the open air, and improve your fitness, combining this with helping your local environment and the local community. They take part in activities such as tree planting, maintaining the commons such as Nettlebed and Kingwood, working at the Ewelme Water Cress Beds, helping at Grays Court and Nuffield, hedge laying, clearing footpaths and working at several nature reserves. Sonning Common Green Gym are coming to do some work at Rokeby Recreation Ground in Tokers Green on Saturday 15 February from 9.30am. NOTE: Unfortunately, the council can no longer provide equipment for the litter pick on 19th April so the official event is cancelled but feel free to pick up any litter on your village walks     Please come and join your friends and neighbours this Spring cleaning up the litter that is in and around Kidmore End. We will be using the support and resources from SODC who will be providing Hi-Vis jackets, gloves, pickers and bags for the rubbish we collect. We will be meeting by the phone box at 10.30 on Sunday morning on April 19th. Everyone is welcome to come and join in, but please do not bring your dog or young children as we will be collecting litter from the road verges.

Help tidy up the pond area on Sunday March 21th and April 18th from 10.00 – 12.00. We already made a great start in February but plan to carry on by pruning back vegetation, removing a couple more trees, tidying up the path and planting some more flowers. Please join us for some healthy exercise, socially distanced with very visible and clear rewards by improving the pond area. Please bring your own tools and no children or pets. This is the first in a series of events that are planned to be held at the Jubilee Pavilion, Gallowstree Common. All proceeds will be used to help fund a variety of future events at the Pavilion, both musical and otherwise. Your support will help to enrich our community. This initial event features singer Lea Lyle and her Trio. Lea’s voice has been said to “melt like chocolate and warm hearts on the coldest of nights”. The programme will include many familiar swinging favourites from the Great American Songbook. We will take all sensible Covid precautions and ask those attending to do the same. • Bar opens at 6pm • Full range of drinks and bar snacks available • Music starts at 7:30
