Welcome to Cane End

Cane End is located in the south-east of Oxfordshire, a few miles north of Reading.

From the mid-18th century, Cane End House and Estate was owned by the Vanderstegen family. The Vanderstegens enlarged their estate through purchases of land and premises in nearby Reading, Basildon (Berkshire) and Shambridge. Upon the death of Henry Brigham Douglas Vanderstegen in 1940, the majority of the estate was sold to Milton Harris of Little Milton Manor, who sold it off in sections throughout the 1940s. In 1947, Cane End House and over 500 acres of land were purchased by Anthony Hordern.

The collection relates primarily to the valuation and sale of the estate of H.B.D. Vanderstegen in the early 1940s, and subsequent property transactions within the tenure of Milton Harris.

The records were deposited in 2001 as accession 4906. Catalogued by Katherine Kinrade in March 2019.

One of our residents thought what a good idea it would be for everyone to share their various tools and equipment with neighbours. So many of us have various bits of equipment that we use once and then lie at the back of the shed or garage and are never seen again, until that clear out period comes along.

One can access TROUT on the Cane End community WhatsApp and there are lots of other recommendations on a wide range of products and services.
