Rotherfield Walking Football club were winners and runners up at the Burghfield FC Tournament in early June. It started as a wet Saturday morning but the sun broke through on occasion as the day progressed.
All games were 8 minutes long and played on grass pitches. The teams were all well matched with a lot of 0-0 draws and all wins being by a single goal. The sportsmanship and reff’ing were all top class.
The competition format was a round robin league with the top 4 teams progressing to the knockout out phase. After playing hard fought games our teams finished first and second of the league which meant we avoided playing each other in the semi-final.
Both our teams won their semi-finals on penalties thanks in large part to our excellent keepers. And so Rotherfield played out the final with one team winning and other being a close second. As a club we showed great spirit and quality, it was a really good day for Rotherfield.
